This renowned sand and shingle beach is Suffolk's most well-known, stretching along the picturesque town of Aldeburgh. The beach, flanked by historic buildings, including a 400-year-old Moot Hall, a Martello tower, a converted windmill, and a Norman church, is complemented by ample facilities to enhance the overall experience.
While the beach itself lacks kiosks, the town of Aldeburgh beckons with its charm after a morning of seaside activities. Indulge in freshly caught and cooked fish & chips from Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop, followed by a delectable ice cream from one of the town's numerous delis and cafes. Aldeburgh, retaining its unspoiled character, boasts a shingle beach that extends generously, providing a tranquil retreat from modern times.
Between May and September, dogs are not permitted on the beach.
Public toilets are conveniently located at Fort Green Car Park (South side of the beach) and Moot Hall (central). Both locations feature accessible toilet facilities.
Opening hours are from 7 am to 5:30 pm in winter (October to Easter) and from 06:00 to 20:00 in summer.
For visitors' convenience, two main car parks flank either side of the beach. Fort Green (IP15 5DE) and Thorpe Road (IP16 4NR) both offer pay-and-display services, operational from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, seven days a week. Thorpe Road stands out as the largest car park, providing ample space for beachgoers.
There are no lifeguard patrols at this beach, so caution is advised while bathing or swimming.
