Southwold offers an authentic British seaside experience, boasting two distinct beaches—Southwold Pier Beach to the north and Southwold Denes Beach to the south. Southwold Pier Beach, particularly popular with visitors, embodies the traditional charm of a seaside town, complete with beach kiosks, a picturesque promenade, and the iconic Edwardian pier.

Acknowledged with both Blue Flag status and a Seaside Award in 2023, Southwold Pier Beach guarantees a pristine and secure seaside experience. The sandy, gently sloping shore is complemented by a delightful promenade, set against the backdrop of the charming town of Southwold. The recently reconstructed pier, uncommercialised seafront, boating lake, model yacht pond, and beach huts all contribute to crafting the distinctive ambiance that defines Southwold.
The beach harmonises seamlessly with the Southwold Pier Pavilion, creating a perfect combination of beach relaxation or walks followed by season-appropriate treats like ice cream or hot beverages. The solidly constructed concrete promenade serves as both a spacious walking area for those avoiding the beach.
There is seasonal beach wheelchair hire available in Southwold. To book or to request further details, contact beach.wheelchairs@eastsuffolk.gov.uk or Telephone: 01502 586167
Watersports are popular here and Southwold Surf Hire allow the hire of surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuits.
Dogs are prohibited from Southwold Pier Beach between April 1st and September 30th. The ban extends from the northernmost extremity of the promenade (at the end of the beach huts) to the southernmost extremity of the promenade (Gun Hill Café).
